Teaching Philosophy
The goal that I have in education is to create a classroom environment that is more like a community of artists than a classroom of students studying art. Art is not something that can be looked at all the time and then comes into practice because of that. Art is something that needs to be practiced daily in order to become habit, habit to become skill, and skill to become mastery. This requires communication and for the students to receive feedback so that they can grow and develop their own sense of style. Somewhere along the line they develop this notion of "I can't make art" when in reality it's likely one person that tells them they can't and everything collapses in. This is where the fire needs to be rekindled and cared for so that they can return to a life of creativity without worry of being deterred again.
To add another little something, as well, I want to make sure students are given every tool they will ever need to make art and have every opportunity that they could want. Just because they're in the classroom and not making art doesn't mean they're wasting their time. They are present and still being exposed to art whereas they could be off doing whatever and not learning. One day at a time each with a choice to be made.
"No student without support; every opportunity given for success is there."
